Hi Marco,

thank you for the podcast on how to prepare your holidays, an annual classic.

You asked about experiences with hiking backpacks, so allow me to link to my blog post „0006 The holy grail of travelbags“ (http://paulsphotoblog.com/2017/09/26/0006-en-holygrailtravelbags/), where I describe my solution for using dedicated hiking backpacks with inlays (used this way on Kilimanjaro in January of this year).
After using my old (very old) Lowepro mini trekker classic for 15 years (with back problems), I bought a brand new Mindshift BackLight 26L backpack in February (Amazon US : https://amzn.to/2IxUO0p , Amazon DE : https://amzn.to/2tJeGbM). I was in England in February at a Fujiholics workshop (with Matt Hart) and half of the participants had this backpack. I tested it and fell in love with it right away.

I had the Mindshift BackLight 26L with me several times now, especially in April on a week-long photo trip to Mallorca, Spain with a lot of stuff to carry around. When you're wearing it, you hardly notice you've got it with you. Only recommended (use it with my Fuji cameras and a lot of extra equipment, MacBook Pro 15",...). And it fits cabin size restrictions.

With my hiking backpack I always attach the camera to a snap hook that I have attached to the shoulder strap (on the camera I have attached a stable key ring to the eyelet). For additional safety, I then pull the chest strap (the transverse strap) through the normal camera strap (has already proven itself several times).

I would also like to refer you to my blog post „0009 Tripods, ballheads and other stabilisation stuff“ (http://paulsphotoblog.com/2017/10/31/0009-tripods-heads-stuff/), where I share my personal experiences in different environments.

Best regards

Paul from Luxembourg
