CAMERA AND INSPIRATION #2 | PPN | May 30TH, 2017

Picture

On the "Camera and Inspiration" show, Scott and Marco talk about inspiration in photography and try to help you to take your camera out with more intent. On this episode they cover the following topics:

  • Marco picks this month inspirational photographer: Fan Ho (1931 - 2016) Chinese photographer, actor and film director. He is known as the Cartier-Bresson of the East. Please check out his amazing photographs here: http://www.fanhophotography.com/index.html
  • As Scott and Marco are both believers that a photo isn’t finished until it has been printed, they have decided on focus this episode to having your images printed by a pro lab.
  • Marco interviewed Marieke Goethe, PR Director of White Wall lab (www.WhiteWall.com). White Wall has just been awarded “Best Photo Lab Worldwide” by the TIPA awards 2017. White Wall also produces the limited art prints for the Lumas galleries (www.LUMAS.com). So with just a few steps, you can have your images produced in art gallery quality.
  • Scott's inspirational photo book of the month is called: William Eggleston “Guide”. The book contains the first color photographs that were accepted by the art world and displayed in many museums. The body of work contains images that may seem to document the banality of ordinary objects and daily life and can be an inspiration for anyone who thinks that there is nothing interesting to photograph in their neighborhood.

Many thanks for another excellent 'inspiration' podcast: enjoyable, varied and genuinely educative.

I thought I'd mention that I have a hand-signed copy of Eggleston's Guide, done when he was at the exhibition of his 'Portraits' in London last year. It's a lovely book as Scott describes, but for a full appreciation of his colour images I'd thoroughly recommend trying to see his prints for real in a gallery - the standard book reproductions don't do justice to the subtlety and impact of his colours. For example, this, where in the flesh you really get the impression that the dog is sucking all the colour out of the image! https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/45/0d/27/450d27995548a3ef56e490f1d0f40180.jpg

Eggleston is a bit of an acquired taste for many photographers, but seeing his intense colours as he intended does help a lot and I also find him a repeated inspiration.

All the best,
Mark
